Fitz87 is on a distinguished road
replacing portlights

I have been removing all the deck hadware in prep for painting and yesterday decided to take off the first portlight. I found 2 ugly surprises. The first is rot in the interior plywood in a few places, not extensive but disturbing. The second, it seems the ports were bedded in silicone.

I think I can scrape all the old silicone off, though I may be too old to sail by the time done!

I was thinking of painting the rotted area with thinned, slow cure epoxy and hope for the best.

Looking for thoughts and opinions from those of you that have been here and done this.

Thanks,
Fitz
