Have you had the chance to sail your boat yet? Agree, there is zero justification for wire or wire-to-rope halyards today. None. Ours will be going bye-bye faster than you can say 'Technora.' And the only reason for a reel winch is to exist is to manage the otherwise-unmanageable wire.

My 1/4 inch galv wire halyard, which I put on in Tonga in 2003 is due for replacement after ten years of mostly full time cruising. I dont think I would have got that out of any other material
