Frozensurfer is on a distinguished road
Wooden mast repair
I have a hollow blue spruce Mast and I've found some rot, about 1.5" by 5". I'm wondering if anyone knows whether it's ok to just replace the wood and epoxy and screw a piece in there.

You could, but I'd suggest you use scarf joints to put the piece in.

I'd second scarfing in a replacement piece. On a mast, I'd recommend at least an 8:1 or 12:1 scarf joint. Charlie Cobra or one of the other wood boat masochists would be able to help you more definitively.

So I just need to splice in the wood in the area being fixed, correct. Of course, being careful is always a consideration but what Is the means for your suggesting to go so slow. Thanks for all your replys
