As for stainless steel wire for wooden shroud rollers, what I'd do instead is cut a groove around the shroud rollers and then just wrap it with wire in the groove, and then twist it off and press the wire flat into the groove so it doesn't snag anything.
Another option is to get a ClampTite tool, which is a really cool gadget to have aboard a boat anyways, and use it to clamp off the shroud rollers using stainless steel seizing wire, which you should have aboard anyways. BTW, I got one of these at the last boat show...very useful.
