When the mast is up, the halyards probably go through turning blocks at the base of the mast... and go to those winches and then are cleated off on the horn cleats near the winches. This is very common on boats where the halyards are not lead aft.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Jobi--

The winches on the cabin top adjacent to the companionway are the sheet winches. Placed there so one can easily handle the jib and main sheets and the tiller--between ones legs if necessary. The winches at the base of the mast are the halyard winches. The Thompson T-24 is one of the finest small off-shore cruisers that was ever built in the UK. The yachts can be found in England, many ports in northern Europe, and NZ and "Oz", the majority having made their way here and there on their own bottoms. There is tons of information on these sturdy little yachts on the internet. Rather than, continuing to ask rather silly questions, what about the possibility of doing some research on your own? Here's a mantra for you...

Rig the boat, launch her and go sailing. If you make a stupid mistake the yacht will simply ignor you and do the right thing. One's influence on a yacht is proportional to the ratio of ones weight to the displacement of the yacht.

FWIW...

Jobi—

A lot of the questions you are asking have pretty obvious answers if you were to just stop and think about them for a bit...

you havr 39000 posts to your active, can you amagine just how much knowlege youve gained via these exchanges?

I am at the very first step in the endless lader of sailing, sure many of my questions will not feed your intelect, not even stimulate it a bit.

but see it this way, every time I ask a question (good or bad) I lern something of use, and thats why pepoles like you should keep helping.

what seems futile to you is eye opening to others.

and you know that I thank each and every one of you guys for it.

call me anoying if you need, but call me!!

There's a clear difference between questions and just being lazy. If you're perceived to be in the latter category, those who can help you will be much less inclined to do so. 'Welcome' is easily worn thin.

I trust there expertise, I trust them to understand that I cant spent much time on the net, I trust them to understand my language barrior and uneducation.
