Been moving along nicely with my project. I've had a chance to really go over the boat and dismantle some hardware and explore the damage done to the hull.
The gelcoat was severely cracked, crazed and bubbled above the accent stripe, probably caused from damage and a cracked toerail that allowed water to enter under the toerail. I've had to grind away massive amounts of damaged glass to reach solid sections. I'll have to build it back up and reconstruct the step. I made a mold to get the rough shape, need a bit more stiffness in the mold.
I've prepped the starboard hull from the accent stripe to the waterline got application of primer.
The crack in the hold has been roughed out and the first layer of glass on the outside has been installed, I plan on at least 1 more outside. We are waiting for a low temp low humidity day to layout the interior glass laminate
The rear port chainplate support was in good shape and I'll add 2 layers of reinforcement and beef up the backing support underneath. The starboard side was in poor shape and so cracked daylight was visible from underneath. All chainplates will be replaced, reinforced and rebedded. The replacement will be simple, they are 3/8 bow eyes, The support for the shroud chainplates are in good shape and solid glass.
So far this boat has been an enlightening experience. I've experienced just about all kinds of fiberglass defects and have a better knowledge of what lies underneath different looks of damage. Overall this looks to be a solidly constructed boat and fairly accessible to repair.
