Figuring out a backstay adjuster on a C&C Mk2

Hello,

I've bought my C&C Mk2 1987 this spring through a previous owner that didn't sailed the boat. I've seen no where the details for the backstay adjuster, it uses a pair of block on a split backstay. The main problem is that I see no evident attachment points for this block and pulley system.

I've pulled the following image from a listing in Yachtworld where we see the general location of the system but the attachment point is not clear. There seem to be 2 attachments points pretty much in line with the split backstays.


I've also included a photo of the back of my boat. Would the system attach itself just below the turnbuckle?

The bottom of the backstay adjuster block and tackle can attach pretty much anywhere within the "Y" of backstays. I suspect it should be off to one side or the other or avoid being in the way of the aft ladder. Look for an attachment connection somewhere in those areas.

I'd say the adjuster ends connect right to backstay chainplates, one to each side.

Try it out. You should get up on the C&C newsgroup if you aren't.

PS-looks like a real sweet boat.

Do any of the blocks have a cam cleat on them or is there a cleat near one of the backstays? Maybe you could lay out the blocks and take a shot of them?

On the boat, there isn't really anything else that we can't see from the picture of the transom. As for the blocks, I do have a few of them left by the previous owner but none are identified specifically as for the backstay. I'll take a shot of everything I have still loose over next weekend (the boat is 1h30 away ) and add it here.

From memory, I believe I have all the blocks needed to rig the 4:1 split backstay (see diagram here), except no attachment point in the middle and the lines would make standing at the helm very uncomfortable. The 8:1 split backstay (same diagram) seems more plausible but again I really can't see any attachment point between the two split backstay. This arrangement also resembles what is seen on the low res photo taken from yachtworld (see link on first post).

Another photo (here) I've just found seems to suggest a pair of small eye straps fixed to the teck rail. Would that really be sufficient? What would be the load on such attachments? Breaking strength of the backstay is 8,200 lbs according to the manual.

Seb,

What is the problem? GeneT provided a link as to how your backstay connects. Your last picture shows you the same setup. Connect the adjuster to your backstay chainplates and enjoy.

We added a manual cascade system to our C&C 110 - works GREAT! And was very easy and a fraction of the cost of a hydraulic system. Also, I tried one of those ring things with the 3 blocks on it, as well as a johnson plate with the 3 sheaves in it - total waste of time and money. Local rigger showed me what to do with this system.
