It cost me about $1500 3 years ago to have the cabin sole cut out, new mahogany stringers installed and a new sole. It''s 3/4 inch marine ply glassed on top. (Didn''t replace the teak and holly. I went with dri-dek on top of the new sole. If you''re doing it, take the opportunity to give yourself decent access to the bilge. I had two foot long access plates, which wouldn''t give you access to the keel bolts, etc. Now I have a 6 foot long mahogany access plate. If you have wiring running through the bilge, ripping out the cabin sole is also a great opportunity to install conduit (PVC pipe) for electrical runs.

I have a 31'' Irwin I am replacing the cabin sole on. Using 3/4" teak & holly marine plywood. Material cost is a little over $400.00 and doing the work myself.

Irwin: Where did you get the plywood? What are you doing about the edges?

I have seen a couple of boats in my area that used a flooring they bought from Century Tile that looked pretty good, It was fake wood - say mahogany or cherry, that is made in board size strips. It is somewhat flexible and I believe it is made of fibergalss. It even has the 1/8" spacing in between boards.
