Is this the wrong fitting?

I took off the hose to the raw water intake on my new (old) Bristol 27. The fitting appears to be a sawed off copper or brass pipe. Was there any time in history that this was an accepted way to attach a hose to a seacock?

I'm sure you already know the answer to the question but here goes.

It's the right fitting if you have good insurance and are in a hurry to try it out.

It's the wrong fitting if you really like your boat.

It may have been an emergency repair that never got replaced.

Historically it was common to clamp hoses onto smooth pipe nipples. That's said to be why the practice of installing two hose clamps came to be the standard.

In the last couple decades most fittings have barbs, and the second hose clamp is no longer needed just to hold the hose on, but nowadays more to add "back up" security to the assembly. (Of course if an owner was so lax that they would allow one clamp to corrode away, they would probably overlook the second one going away also...)
