Parker R12P Fuel/Water Separator

The Parker R12P has two outlets under the clear polycarbonate bowl, one is black with finger grips, the other is fitting with a slotted screw fitting.

Which one do I open to drain the water, I'm assuming the black one since it has finger grips and has a hose barb on the end of it? When I started to open it I could see air bubbles floating up.

That alarmed me as I was concerned that I would introduce air into the line and it's subsequent problems.

Any info much appreciated.

The hose barb should have a small diameter long length tube attached when draining water. The application of a tube will slow down or prevent the in-rush of air through the drain and allow the tank to siphon to prevent air intrusion into the filter bowl.
You should however plan on bleeding air anytime you open a fuel filer. A 12vdc electric fuel pump mounted in-line between the tank and the filter set will save a lot of 'hassle' when you need to bleed.
