How to affix boat name

Ive got the original artwork from my buddy (see my public profile if interested) to convert to a format to apply to my boat. I talked with a local sign shop, and they will scan it, vectorize it and put it on vinyl for about 100 bucks. However, it would be one sheet, not the type that would peel off the negative space and only leave the design....

any tips on the best way to convert this to an appliable format? ie, where only the design would be left? I dont think people really airbrush/paint stuff anymore and it seems it would be very difficult to translate the shading this way...

I'd look around for another shop. There's got to be someone out there who can make just what you want so that you can just peel and apply.

Lots of sign companies will be able to make the lettering properly for your boat. Make sure they use a decent grade of exterior use vinyl, since the lesser grades will deteriorate quite quickly. In many ways, you do get what you pay for, and the places that charge the lowest prices generally use inferior materials.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
