Sailing Instruments

When I purchased my boat, the previous owner had installed a set of Standard Horizon instruments. The basic sailing package, wind/speedo/depth. I had never been a big fan of them, and now they are failing one by one. The plastic cases are separating and letting water in. The good news for me is that I now am in the market for a new sailing gauge pakage. The bad news is that I now am in the market for a new sailing gauge package.

I will not be buying anything from Standard H., but I would like to hear from people who have used either the Nexus system or B&G''s latest offerings. And feedback or comments on any other systems would be welcome.

Thanks, Rick

I purchased the "basic 3" from Raymarine last year (ST 60 series). So far I am very pleased. Our gracious host, Sailnet often has this package on sale for a very good price.
I also like the self-closing thru hull fittings. The digits are large and easy to read even with bifocals. The bus system is easy to wire.
Other brands are probably just fine, but I was re-filling old instrument holes in the cabin bulkhead and these were almost a perfect replacement, albeit with a lot less protrusion on the inside.
Happy wiring,
LB

We recently purchased an''82 PS Orion 27'' which has Navico 200 instruments. The LED''s have ''faded'' - we can see that info. is getting to it, but not legible. Would prefer to replace with same, or LED than rewire for different brand ... but, can''t find DS200 Depth Sounder(used or parts) any suggestions?

Simrad bought Navico a couple of years ago. Check with them to see if replacement read-outs are available. www.simrad.com

Horizon has been great as far as repair or replacement of defective units even out of warranty.
