replacement engine for westsail 32

I am looking into buying a Westsail 32 Cutter and it has a Volvo MD2B Diesel Auxiliary. I am looking for a new engine that will fit the footprint of this old engine. Can anyone give me an idea on which engine they have used and had success with for this boat?

Honda, a number of W32''s have been and are powered by Perkins 4-108 4-cylinder diesels.

replacement engine for westsail 32

FYI - the 4-108 weighs about 200 lbs more than the Volvo MD-2

Nereus32 is an unknown quantity at this point
replacement engine for westsail 32

The Westsail 32 originally came with a choice of Perkins 4-108, Volvo MD3B, or MD2B. The MD2B is a little small for the boat, but many are still in service.

The replacement engine of choice was the Perkins M-50. However, the engine isn''t manufactured any longer. Today, I know the Westerbeke 44a and the new Beta Marine engine are being chosen as replacements. Replacing an engine usually means installing adapter plates for the motor mounts and resetting the shaft log for alignment. Depending on which engine pan is in the boat (assuming MD2B pan) installation shouldn''t be that big of deal. Check w/ WorldCruiser for specifics at www.westsail.com.
