Water Heater Replacement

My water heater has finally died because it has rusted/rotted out and now leaks. My boat is a 1989 Catalina 30, and the design of the area where the water heater is placed makes removal of the old and installation of the new impossible without major cabinetry surgery. Has anyone tackled this issue and what were some of the ways that you addressed this wonderful design situation? Thanks

mitiempo will become famous soon enough
The Catalina 30 group on Yahoo would probably be a better place to ask. I am sure many have replaced theirs.
