Spinnaker for C&C 29'

Has anyone installed or used a spinnaker for a C&C 29' (1983)? We have an used symmetrical spinnaker sail from the previous boat owner, but no spinnaker pole. It doesn't look like there was any attachment to the mast for a pole. Can you use a spinnaker without a pole?

Thanks,

A symmetrical spinnaker does require a pole. Although I have flown them as you would asymmetrical.

If you add a pole, you will also need to add a topping lift and a downhaul as well as the attachment point on the mast.

Greg- I have a C&C 29 of the same vintage (1985). You probably already have the sheave for the internal topping lift. You will need to to install the 1-1/4" spinnaker car track- 6foot section (less than $100) starting about a foot above cabin top. ABI a pin-stop spinnaker car is usually about $30. Also you need a topping lift line with snap shackle and a downhaul line that you rig to a folding pad eye on the foredeck. Of course you will need a 2-1/2" diameter 11'4" spinnaker pole with trigger ends for end to end gybes. Additionally 2 snatch blocks, one each to be attached at widest point of the beam and turning blocks to be placed aft of winches on the slotted toe rail. Spinnaker sheets with shackles and plastic donut guards.

I have some of this used equipment I might sell you cheap. (snatch blocks, spin sheets etc. Let me know

I have documented most of the installation procedures I went through to rig my boat for a symetrical spinnaker this season. it's going to be mostly the same for your boat from the sound of it.

Part 1 and Part 2 are on the site, I need to get a couple of pictures of the boat under sail with the spinnaker this weekend and then I'll put up Part 3...
