Widening the narrow end of a thimble eye?

Is there a right or wrong way to open up a thimble (so that it will fit inside a round ring, for example)?

Apply heat maybe? I don't know...just guessing. I would like to know the answer to that also.

is the thimble already used on a splice of cable or rope if so the best way would be by using a marlin spike. if not then best to purchase correct thimble size and type before splicing eye be carefull with adding heat so as not to get the metal to hot.

Use 2 pairs of water pump pliers and twist the ends sideways from ea. other, NOT straight apart.

][ normally closed thimble from split end

] twist sideways (a vise might help)

..[ ignore periods, only for formatting.

Do the same trick w/ chain links and they close tight.
