CNG to Propane conversion

All,

I'm experiencing some frustration in sourcing parts to convert my circa 1990 marine stove from CNG to propane. Thought I had a lead from a fellow in California who knows the stove well and claimed to have the needed parts kit. But months of unreturned phone calls leave me looking for other leads. The stove is a Regal, by Gas Systems Inc, and it needs orifaces properly sized for propane gas, vice CNG. Can anyone give me a vector? Thanks!

I'd think any gas services contractor or outlet should be able to help you out.. and if the propane orifice is larger than that for CNG you could just drill out the originals.. (but I'm not sure which way that works out)

EDIT.. just did a bit of googling and it looks like the propane orifice is generally smaller due to the higher supply pressure...but didn't find actual data.

During a Google search a few days go, I read on a site that it's not cost effective to convert. That site was talking about household appliances. FWIW

Appreciate the replies, guys. Yes, I also found the orifaces for propane are smaller in size. And I will contact a local propane seller to see what thoughts they may have. I think Amerigas sells here in Florida.

I think it may be more cost effective to convert a marine stove than a household stove due to the expense of the marine stove

If you end up having to replace the stove you might consider an origo alchol non pressure stove. they are safer than propane and very simple, basically no moving parts and the install would be much easier than a propane install.
This is what ive decided to do when i replace my CNG stove/oven.

Look up the model # of your stove underneath the cover where the pot holders are and call Seaward in California. They should be able to help you out.

Thanks guys. I'll check the Origo brand alcohol stoves, but the wife has pretty much put the kaibausch on that option. For one thing, she likes to bake, and I don't think an alcohol stove will do that.

I did call Seaward (couple of times), and though GSI was sold to Seaward, for some reason my model was never produced by them, or something, so they refered me to this other fellow....who said he has what I need, but now I can't get him to respond.

Well, looked into the Origo stoves a bit, and looks like that may indeed be an option. Thanks for the suggestion, Mitch...may be our ultimate solution.

RV supply rather then "marine" supply is a good way to search.
wedgewood is a long time mfg of stoves.

Propane Stoves

Of course rust is the big problem with anything steel on a boat so your purchase should have that in mind. RVs don't have as much problems with salt laden moisture that boats do.
