Looking for an old winch handle

No one seems to know what I am talking about when i explain this one. I am looking for this and if anyone knows where i can get it, I will be greatly appreciated. Its a winch handle with an "O" joint that goes on top of the winch instead of inserted. I have tried to attach a picture but it's not letting me. I have tried salvage yards and most websites so I am hoping that one of you will have a spare one.

thanks

John Brady

I know exactly what you're looking for. The winches must be quite old.

Try baconsails.com. Call them, they have much, much more in stock than what is listed on their web site. They'll know exactly what you're looking for.

Good luck.

definitely into old farts territory here. used to be a bunch of variations on the now standard male handle into female winch. I remember an old boat of mine had handles that fitted into slots at the base of the winch.

good luck with your search but at least you can take comfort in the fact that some of us remember the ooooooooold days.

Yeah most don't even know I am talking about... Ha. My friend jinxed himself by talking about how it didn't float and then sent it on its merry way to the bottom of the bay as we were listing approximately 35 degrees. As soon as I heard fu&$, I knew it was gone....ha

I'm not familiar with that handle, but lots of obscure stuff comes up on ebay. Watch boat parts and nautical antiques sections.

ive also got a different style on the boat, they are some type of old school synthetic (called tufflo? truflo?) that have slots on the side to affix the winch, but ive only got one handle for those.

They are the type I was talking about, though my memory failed me as to where the slots were.

I'm pretty sure that Brady was referring to somethin different to that, where th handle fits over a part projecting from the winch....the reverse of a modern winch to some extent.

ps - those winches and that handle are probably worth a pretty penny or two if they are in good condition. I doubt anyone still makes them and to the owner of the right classic they would be much prized.

If that is the type of winch handle he is seeking, the dimensions vary widely from winch size and manufacturer. The good news is that they are easy to make using bronze bar stock.
