Furler Maintenance

I have a Harken headsail furler on my 22' boat. Other than what the manual says regarding maintenance, is there anything I should do when putting the boat away for the winter? The manual says to rinse the drum area with fresh water and soap. I see other furlers that are wrapped in plastic during storage, which probably keeps the dirt out. Any thoughts???

Covering the drum to protect it from airborne dirt is never a bad idea, provided the cover has a way to drain any water that gets inside it.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
