Chartplotter with no external antena

About to get a Raymarine A-50 Chartplotter for my sailboat. Thing is it has only a built in reciever. I sometimes bring the chartplotter below and close the hatch on a rainy night. The reciever costs over $300 !! Anyone had experience using one of these GPS units in the cabin without an external antena? Is it still reliable like that?

Yes, most of them will work just fine inside a fiberglass cabin, even one with a cored cabintop. Inside a metal boat is a different story.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
