Truth in advertising.

You might do the same thing with wire ties.

Yes, but the name isn't as catchy.

You better use some serious wire-ties for the birds around here. Cormorants and the gulls in this area learn pretty quickly that those wire ties will easily bend. If your intent is to tickle their bellies, have at it. Bird-x plastic spikes are used on spreaders and on the mast heads around here, and even then, the birds can break off some of the spikes, and then flatten the remaining ones. this won't work on pulpits or pushpits, of course.
( the usual disclaimer regarding no affiliation with the Bird-x company)

It won't prevent most of the droppings on my boat, which are the result of low level strafing runs as opposed to surface deposits

Seagulls? Hah! I had a heron who decided that my mailsail cover was a good place to hang out. They poop big.

My PO used old CDs on a fishing wire; maybe I should try those.

I know, right? Each "incident" with a heron looks like someone dumped a half gallon of wet plaster.

Peace,

That's plain horrible. Glad the Heron around here don't seem to be much interested in sailboats, especially mine.

PoopOff

I find it in pet supply stores where it is used to clean bird cages. Really worked when my sail cover and dodger got bombed by cormorants. FWIW
