Damaged GRP repair estimations and opinions needed

I´m planing to buy a 2nd hand sailing boat...Dehler from 1992.

The boat is in nice shape, but had couple of issues with the damaged hull.

In the first pictures...It is the hole for the roller furling....I do not know how long time it has been like that and how long the delaminated area really is?

In the next pictures have some broken gel coat on the coach roof...Same spots also couple found from cockpit floor...What caused these bursted pimples/damages?? Some air between the laminate and the gelcoat?

Then the most serious one... Aft have had recently hit by pier. I believe water had not been entered, cause it has not been raining in some months.

How difficult and expensive is repairing of these problems...?

If somebody have ideas or opinions....please share with me.

That should be American money

All my DIY repairs have cost a LOT of time in taking the boat apart to be able to do the repair AND a lot of time protecting the good parts of the boat from damage as working in most boats requires working around pretty nice woodwork

If a dirty bottom slows you down what do you think it does to your boat

wow!..furler well installed by chainsaw...
I would cut it back a tad more and epoxy/seal..not a show stopper

the deck looks like some one dragged a chain or anchor and dropped it from a few feet, may be scuba tanks banged and drug...again I would epoxy/seal..not a show stopper

the last one worries me more, as what ever he/she hit or hit you, was hit with some force..you will need to cut that back - but since it appears on the rail, you will need to make sure it has not damaged the structure more than we see here...

IMHO, others will surely chime in, this is mostly cosmetic and with a gallon of West epoxy, some fiberglass matting, a ton of sandpaper and a few decent weather days, you could be sailing.

All that being said, it appears the previous owner was ill equipped to do these things correctly, please check the boat thoroughly for other not so apparent damage as we see here.

You should use epoxy resin. Most mat is not epoxy compatible. Use either biaxial cloth or lighter fiberglass cloth instead.

Jani, I would take a few more pictures to better show the scope of the damage and then ask two local yards about the cost of having it repaired professionally. It may be much more than you think, but if you have to ask--you probably should be leaving the repairs to a pro.

"Proper" repairs probably mean removing the furler entirely, accessing the entire area from above and below, and the possibly repainting or refinishing a much larger area in order to bring the cosmetics back 100% as well. If moisture has gotten into coring...you have to chew it out and repair a larger area.

Without more photos to show context and the scope of the damage, rather than the detail of the damaged area, it is hard to say much. If you are going to buy this boat, you really should be getting a lot off on the price.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

i would be agreeing with KD on this one. A boat in that condition is going to have other problems too. Look it over carefully, and offer less than you think you should (much less). There will be things wrong you can't see.

Surveys can be worth the expense.
