Unhappy Window Rubbers (Claytonrite)

I have a 1975 Helsen 22 that I have been restoring for the last year. I am ALMOST done except for the new windows and gasket replacement. I ordered the proper seal from Seals Direct WR-70 with the correct filler strip and even went so far as to order their Glazing tool to assist with the installation. The manufacture recomends using clear silicone sealent for the install, but the rubber just keeps coming loose when I try to install the window. It would appear that the silicone has almost NO holding power.

ANY SUGGESTIONS?

IIRC silicone will not stick to old silicone, so if previous ports were bedded w/silicone you may be having issues--esp depending on how much of the old you got off. in any event most here tend to reccomend 5200 for such tasks.

Nothing sticks to old silicone - it must all be removed first. This may involve sanding or using a Dremel.

Do you have any pictures?
