antifouling for prop and shaft

Hauled Ossifrage 3 weeks ago. Hull was very clean, but prop and shaft were heavily coated with crustaceans. Boat is in Atlantic Canada waters. Any one with any suggestions for anti-fouling metals?

If your boat is seldom used than lanocoat on the prop will shed growth, but will not stand up to a lot of motoring.

I used plain lanolin on my prop this past spring. While the boat wont be hauled for another couple of weeks I had a diver clean the bottom in early fall and he noted that the prop blades were barnacle free, but the hub/shaft were coated with them. Next spring I'll make sure I add more to those areas that didn't hold up as well and see if I can keep the prop clean. A cheap fix and worth the try.

Trilux antifoul spray for outdrives. West M has it, about $20/can. Works great here in the PNW, two years and no hard growth. Clean till shiny with Scotchbrite then prime with zinc chromate spray, then two coats of the antifoul.

Thanks all. Recently found a product called Prop-shield which is lanolin based. Likely just lanolin at a few more $$.

Me too! In Seal Harbor, Maine, Pettit's zinc spray works very well. Just surface slime after 6 months. It is cheap, simple to apply and it really works. I apply three coats.

Me too, although I haven't checked on it since the water got cold.
