outboard:freshwater/saltwater

I have a six horse outboard on my boat that I only use in fresh water. Would this motor work fine in saltwater, or are freshwater and salt water motors configured differently. I know salt water motors have to be flushed after using them. Is there anything else that needs to be done. Or are they the same motors.

AFAIK only some of the heavy-duty outboards (125hp +) come in what they manufacturers quaintly call "salt water series". The rest are all the same especially below 20hp.

Just flush after each use and it will last for many years.
