cold snap-should i worry?

on the 22nd water temps were 60-64. the short term forecast is thur=rain hi 52 low 24 and fri=sun hi 52 low 26. when its sunny the boat tends to warm (obviously).

now usually id be on her, and just have the ceramic heaters running--but i plan on being at deer camp. is there any reason to worry about anything freezing with this two day cold snap? i am loathe to leave heaters on when im not there, especially because they dont have a 'tip over auto off' function. between the water temps and warming days should everything be ok?

thanks

Yes, you should be fine, especially with the heaters running. I don't winterize until the highs drop into the 30s.

You should be fine due to water temps, as Faster noted. I don't worry about high 20s at night, so long at it is getting to the 40s in the day and the water is also in the 40s. We won't winterize the engine until around Christmas. For the future, you may want to consider investing in a bilge heater. They are made to be left on unattended. Ours keeps the interior of the boat around 40 no mater how cold outside. I have it on the cabin sole aimed at teh motor with the front engine cover open. However, even with this set-up we do winterize the raw water side of the engine just in case the power ever goes out.

It shouldn't be a problem with daytime temps in the 50˚s.

I'm not a big fan of ceramic heaters on boats, since they can tip and cause a fire pretty easily. If you are worried about the boat freezing, I'd highly recommend you pick up a couple of goldenrod heaters.

BTW, your insurance company would probably have an issue with you leaving ceramic heaters on while the boat is unattended.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

those goldenrods look sweet, and they have dehumidification properties too it seems.
yeah, when i got those heaters i just assumed they had the auto off deal... you know the old assume addage. at the local tjmax they have the sharper image version of ceramic w/auto off for 15 bucks, but it looks that id be better off going golden. thanks gang

blt2ski will become famous soon enough
I do not think it has been above 32F/0C in two to three days here in Seattle, not to worried about my boat etc. Have a heater going, water temps are constant 40-42F all year.........

Have not had issues in the past, in below freezing temps. Temps are in the teens the last two days or so. with windchills hitting 0F, with some 40-45knot winds a few times......great sea splashes on the sea walls.....

I kept my Catalina in Lake Ray Hubbard near Dallas, TX year round. Would look funny slipping and sliding on the icy walkways to the boat slip but not finding any problems with freezing inside the boat. I didn't use anything for heat when I wasn't there either. I'm not sure why it never froze inside unless it was because it moved all the time in the slip.

Oy, boychik, you don't know from cold.

Dude, you're in TEXAS. Do they even sell antifreeze there?
you're fine. Call me when you step onto the dock to take a whizz and you hear a sound like "tink ta tink- tink-tink-tink." THAT is cold.
good luck at deer camp. if it's less than 10 points, save your ammo.
