Haylards in mast crisscrossed

For years I've wonder if this is correct or has any advantage: My halyards cris-cross in the mast. My main haylard enters the forward slot in the mast and the headsail enters the aft slot on the mast resulting in the crossing of the lines. Does it make sense?

Probably a mistake...It would be better if they didn't cross each other in the mast, since there is the possibility that they can chafe against each other.

Yep probably not a good idea to cross your main and jib halyard.

It is common however to cross your spinnaker halyards since if you are launching on say the port side you will have a crew member hoisting at the mast on the starboard side, the high side as it is much easier.

What it does is help stop the anoying slap/banging inside the mast.
