Have just read in Practical Sailor about an aluminum Barnacle anchor that lost it's fluke during a squall. I have never heard of these anchors. Does anyone have experience, good or bad, with them?
That's it on the left.
They tested very inconsistently in independent trials, never seemed interesting. Dropping flukes during squalls is not going to add to their reputation I suppose.
I have one (non aluminum.) The MacX has a very shallow anchor locker so only something like a Danforth will fit.
The Barnacle works good, always holds.
Grass was always a problem with the Danforth. I tossed the Barnacle to hold the boat while I dropped the mast. It cut through the grass and buried itself via the wind.
