Autopilot maintenance
Just thinking of more winter projects. I guess I want to be sure I never finish the list.
Ironically, I went back to my survey and the autopilot isn't listed and I don't have the manual, so I'm not sure the model number or how to check for it. Its a Raymarine for sure, with the typical instrumentation at the helm.
How would I identify the model? Are there any standard maintenance tasks for all models, such as cleaning servos or lubricating anything? She's a 20+ ton, so I suspect its a larger AP.
I've had luck with mine, so far. Occasional anomalies that a reset typically cures. I've been reading that the AP is the electric item that most often fails for long term cruisers. Is there a good text on AP systems and repair in general? Sounds like something one would want to get good at to be away for a bit.
