Shortening headstay with rod rigging

I think I know the answer to this, but here goes anyway: I have a Harken mark I furler on Navtec rod that is too long. I would like to shorten the rod. Is there any way to remove the furling foil to send the rod to a rigger for inspection and shortening? It is tightened completely and I would like to have some adjustment for tuning. While the stick is down, I am sending the other standing rigging components to be checked, and would like to include the headstay also. I think though I am out of luck with the headstay unless I want to buy a new furler. Any ideas? Thanks

I agree that you are probably out of luck in terms of pulling the rod out of the furler foil -- but in terms of tuning, do you have a backstay adjuster? can you move the position of the mast butt and/or partners at all? Is there a particular problem with the helm balance why you would want to shorten the forestay further?

Also, is there no chance of having the rigger come to the boat rather than you sending the rigging to him?

.

I have not sailed the boat since I bought it and am pulling the mast for some other work. Since there is no adjustment left in the forestay, I would like to get it where there is some ability to do some tuning. Also, I am taking all the rigging to have it inspsected and that is impossible to do with the furling foil in place. The boat is in Kentucky and the closest riggers are Chicago or Texas. Be really expensive to have someone come to reform one rod end. I may have to just live with what I have on this one...........

What equipment is needed to form rod heads? Is it portable or larger shop-type equipment?
