Suzuki 2 Stroke Outboards Any Impressions ?

I am looking at a 23ft boat with an 8hp Suzuki on it. Anyone have any experience with these older engines? Its a longshaft - Sail model.

I've got a Suzuki 9.9 longshaft on my mirage 24. No problems at all, runs great. what exactly do you want to know?

Is it the DT8?

I have one (approx 25 years old) on a 20ft trailer sailer, and know of one other. If the engine has been well maintained it should be reliable. But old outboards are a gamble anyway.

Talking with the owner of the other one I know of, he suggested that the location of the exhaust causes very poor performance in reverse. But suggested that his could push his 20ft ts at 6kn. Depending on how heavy the 23ft is it might be underpowered. They are fairly light for an 8hp so easy to lift.

I have not had experience with the Japanese motors - was just looking for general impressions or if there was something in particular that was problematic with these (ignition, fuel, parts etc)
