Bilge pumps

I''ve got a Rule 3700 submersible pump in my deep bilge which is not easily accessible. If it''s not the switch, it''s the pump that''s acting up. I pulled, cleaned and replaced the pump and it worked for about 2 weeks. Nothing seems out of the ordinary; not clogged but sounds like it''s cavitating when it''s not working. The discharge has to pump 5'' of head and 25'' long.
This is my first experience with submersibles and was wondering if it were possible to replace it with a diaphragm hooked to the float switch. It would mean a world of difference when it came to maintenance.

Yes, you can install a Diaphragm pump c/w strainer on suction hose. Jabsco (Par) makes several, including the small #30705 rated @ 3.8 GPM Open, and the larger #34600 rated 10.8 GPM. Flojet makes a 5 GPM unit, the #4125. Others by Groco.

BTW: You indicate a ''deep'' bilge, but only 5 Ft of head (lift actually, total head will be more due to friction losses) - so sounds like your discharge thruhull is not all that high above W/L.
