Origo 4000

I just bought an Alberg 30 and it did not have a stove, it had a place for it though. My wife and I found a great consignment shop in Oriental, NC, the town where we bought our boat. What a great little place. While poking around found an Origo 4000 with cutting board. It was clean and in great condition. Asking price was $150, I offered $100 and got it. Decided to try it out tonight. worked well...i thought. i used denatured alcohol from Taylors Do It....4.99/qt. I put a 1.5 qt tea pot on it and it started boiling in 12.5min. Not as quick as the electric unit in the house but whats the rush, overall it will fit the bill!

What is the consumption rate of this stove...how much cooking time per gallon? A rough idea is all i need.

I have been using one of their stoves (model 6000) for over 15 years. Same burner in all models. I do not keep a record of time between refills, but their claim seems about right.
We carry a spare gallon of alcohol, and never seem to run short on a two week vacation cruise. We use the oven fairly often also.

I have a Origo 2000 (single burner) and that seems about right for me. I mainly use mine for making coffee in a stove-top espresso maker, or for heating up soup/leftovers/hot-cereal occasionally, so I only use it for a few minutes at a time. But, a single fill (~1.5 liters) lasts for several weekends of that kind of use.

The boat we sail on in the Caribbean uses the two burner.. seems fine. I think this is the way to go if you want an alcohol stove, or if you're simply dead set against propane.

Alcohol is slower, but who's in a rush?
