single side band antenna for Hunter 49

We have just purchased a Hunter 49. The B & R rig has no backstay, so the usual positioning for a SSB antenna is not available. Is a whip antenna the only alternative?

RichH will become famous soon enough
No reason for putting a SSB antenna ONLY on the backstay.... A simple possible solution would be using one of the 'cap shrouds' ... ie. a GAM dipole antenna 'over' a side stay, simple di-pole, etc. etc. etc. etc.
Previous discussion of exact same ... http://www.sailnet.com/forums/gear-m...b-antenna.html

I had a "dummy" backstay made using 1/4" wire. I could not find a good pleace to attach the bottom of the stay I decide to get a rope antenna for my H49. I originaly installed the rope antenna permanently but I am going to have a block off the mast head to raise and lower the antenna. No sense in having the antenna deployed if not in use. I would get the the 35ft one and save some $$$. For CP I used a strap of copper from the tuner to the nearest thru hull (genset gas exhoust). I have no affiliation w/vendor.

Or you could just use a 23' piece of insulated copper wire hoisted up a spare halyard.

Single side band antenna without backstay

Thanks to everyone who replied to my request for information about alternatives to backstay or whip antennas. As a newbie at Sailnet, I am continually amazed at the willingness of fellow sailors to help out with advice and information.
