roller bearing for 30+ year old Lewmar 8 winch!

Hi! I need a replacement bearing for a 30+ year old Lewmar Winch! I did speak to Lewmar and it seems that spares for this model have long been discontinued whilst spares for the more recent Lewmar 8 do not fit perfectly!

Any ideas of a source ?

If loose needles, they may be replaced. However this is the best source for this kind of bearings (Bearincage/needlecage):
Torrington offered by Dalton Bearing Service Inc
As for measuring, you have to measure the dia of the inner shaft and the dia of the race on the outer part. Just measuring the bearing like on the pic is no help.

As I all of a sudden noticed you are located in Europe (Malta), you may even try this company in Germany:

jaybeegee if you don't have any luck with either of them call Jon at Continental Marine 617- 719-8232 that is a boat storage/wrecking yard for abandoned boats in Quincy,Massachusetts U.S.A. they have a lot of the older winches that seem to be in fairly good shape. remember our boats only spend about 5 months in the water. good luck

Lewmar obviously didnt make the bearings, most manufactures use 'stock' or common supply bearings ... so they are probably available from a local 'bearing supply'. If you can get the numbers off the bearing race or outer end surface, simply 'duplicate' and/or use an 'equivalent' from a different bearing manufacturer. You may have to remove (press off) the bearing to get the ID number. Failing ID of the bearing, simply take the entire bearing to a bearing supply house for 'matching'.
