Safety Netting and Jib Sheets

Does anyone have an example of their safety netting setup? Do your jib sheets get snarled in them?

In the attached pic one can (look hard) see that that there is a small space between the cap rail and the bottom of the hand made 'netting'. I needed to do this so that I can run the sheets inside the rail and also outside the rail, and especially when positioning the jib cars fore and aft to match the conditions and when flying a large spinn.

This 'netting', installed around the 'whole boat', is to keep a small dog onboard in heavy weather conditions - so it only needs to cover from the cap rail up to the middle 'wire' of the 'life lines'.

David, jibs sheets should never get snarled in the safety netting. Either you are sheeting inboard of the lifelines, or you are sheeting OVER the lifelines outboard of them. You'd never run the sheets "though" the lifelines (between the lifelines and the toe rail) so there's no way for the sheets to get tangled in them.

OK, I'm sure there's SOME way but so far that's one tangle I've never seen or heard of. Don't worry about it.

Excellent. So, were would you NOT put the netting? At the bowsprit ... Anywhere else? I keep on a mooring so I figure I'll need a holes by my forward chocks.

Put the netting anywhere you NEED the netting, just allow a small space UNDER the netting so you can adjust the fairleads easily and without having to 'reroute' the jibsheets each and every time you change the fairlead car position.
A P35 typically only has a 'top' lifeline ... so rig/tie/lash an additional 'rope'/wire about 2-3" higher than the caprail .... and 'hang' your netting between the top lifeline and the line that you run across the cap rail.

Often, the lifelines run through the top of the netting and a light line is run through the bottom of the netting. This line can be secured to the deck with very small stainless eye straps along the deck inside of the toe rail. Around the chocks, you just wrap the line around and through the next to bottom rung of the netting and then back down. This allows you to access your chocks or deck cleats.

Having said that, I hate lifeline netting. It won't interfere with your lines, but it does get in the way of everything else. Unless you have a small animal or child, I wouldn't consider it. Even then, tie the kids down and see rough weather as an opportunity to be rid of the small animals. ;-)
