Question Need new cushions...

...but dont want to pay oodles of money. Does anyone have some good resources on the internet for cushion makers that want less than $4500 for a new set of cushions for a 32 foot boat?

One way to lower costs is to use avoid the "marine" specialists and use a regular upholsterer. The last time I looked into replacing my cushions (this is for my Oday 23 about eight years ago), the marine guy wanted about $3000; the furniture upholsterer quoted me a price right around $2000. I'd look in the local Penny Saver and the yellow pages for a smaller local shop that needs work.

If you can re-use the foam you will save $400-500. We got some fabric online (about $160 for our 27' boat). Will try sewing new covers soon. Sailrite sells instructional DVD that has some good tips.

Ask around the marina for someone who's doing canvas work on the side. Sometimes you can find someone who's work is as good or better than a shop for a fraction of the cost.

I'd vote against re-using the foam. New foam will get rid of any mildew, diesel of boat smell.

Minnewaska will become famous soon enough
Keep old cushions for template, discard everything and build new. I've found that auto upholstery shops are much less expensive than marine canvas. You may have to order your own sunbrella material, but that's easy to find on the internet.

Jeanneau 54DS

In the harsh marine environment, something is always in need of repair. Margaritas fix everything.
