Carpet in cockpit?

Has anyone ever put carpet in there cockpit and does it last very long if left exposed to sun?

I really cannot see it being any more than a sorry soggy mouldy mess within a very short time. A teak grating would be nice under foot and surely a better idea.

Bad idea. Nothing feels nastier than soggy carpet under your feet.- it also won't do the cockpit sole any favours.

as nasty as carpet in the cockpit is, carpet in the armpit is worse.

IMO carpet has no place on a boat beyond a small matt at the foot of the companionwway....

I do but I don't leave it in the cockpit. I have a small rubber backed carpet I put in the cockpit when I am on the boat. I think it is actually a bath mat. When done sailing for the day I just put it in the cabin where it can stay dry. I am ALWAYS barefoot on my boat and this really increases the comfort of my feet.

I was considering marine carpet. The stuff they use on bass boats.

You just answered your own question.

If Neptune had intended sailboats to look like bassboats the decks would be carpeted from the factory.... and metalflake gelcoat would be standard.
