questioned the same, but came down on the IPad, since it is the market leader and most apps are written for it first, then adapted to the droid, etc.
I agree that the IPAD and apple is leading in developing the technology first. They clearly are gifted in their concept areas.

In terms of Apps, Apple definately started out with more...but the android apps wether they are copy cats or not have caught up and across the board are cheaper than the apple ones.

Apple is an industry leader in innovation I give them that, and their marketing to the average buyer is so far superior to others it isnt funny...they really personalize it for people, but that doesnt make them a better or the most advanced product

Isnt your IPAD2 a 3G runner. In case you havent noticed the new Droid coming out this summer will run 4 g network. Technology has gone by 3g

But like I said I will patiently wait till the Droid tablets with the advanced processors come out later this summer. They will be superior to the IPAD.

First is not always best....but it is always first.

Trying to decide between using a handheld GPS or installing something.
Boat will be used in BVI so its more of a need & handy gadget then a necessity.
What size boat, what is yor budget?

I think the best value is with units that are preloaded with charts at least in the US. If you are leaning toward handhelds, Garmin by far has the largest selection.

I checked the 4G coverage areas. Your device may be able to use it, but only where available. The fact that I may even get 3G has me giddy.

Jeanneau 54DS

In the harsh marine environment, something is always in need of repair. Margaritas fix everything.

Beneteau 411.
and i was considering the ipad option.. because its a good excuse to buy one =)
but wasn't sure if it work in BVI....if it uses cell signal and roams while using it etc.

so im open to ipad.. or handheld.. or mounting something..
and really was trying to spend under 1k. because its more of just a fun gadget to use there. not a must have.

If you're going fixed mount, I agree with the Lowrance recommendation. Best value in a chartplotter available.
