replacing keel/cb winch

Greetings to all,
I am restoring an old Northstar 22 with keel/cb. Presently there is an (fairly ugly !) trailer-style winch inside the cabin to lift/lower the keel. On my previous boat (Seafarer 24 c/b) I had a nice bronze winch mounted in cockpit which was used to lower/raise the c/b. I would like to replace the current installation in Northstar with something like I had on Seafarer. My search on internet returned nothing when searching for (keel / c/b) bronze winches. Any ideas/suggestions what and where to look for ?
One idea I have is to use a halyard winch, something like lvjwinchesusa.com has
Thanks !! Zoran

good c/b winch

Zoran,

I picked up a Seafarer 24 CB last summer and I really like that bronze winch she has since it has a worm gear on the side of the winch housing in a separate housing. This is after having a Hunter 20 with a decent-made but fairly regular trailer type winch. Good luck..I am going down to a great used nautical-type thrift store here in sarasota soon..I will take a look and see if they have anything you could use that is truydy or worm-geared..... I would also check the UK version of Ebay if I were you... Any reminisces about your Seafarer 24 ,anecdotes or advice would be welcome..what did you think of the old girl at the end of the day..? .I like mine lots...but she is in need of a fair bit of work still...thanks and good luck!

Good luck with it, in my opinion I hate swing keels. On the next boat yoou buy, do yourself a favour and go with a fixed keel or at least a shoal draft one.
