Repairing the straps that hold rolled up eisenglass

The straps that hold up the eisenglass have had it. Is there any trick to replacing them (or their functionality) without having to take the dodger off and sewing new ones on? Any tips or tricks? I held it up with some bungy cords the other day but it was a little embarrassing.
