Vacuum Insulation

Hi! I currently have an icebox with 4" of insulation on my boat. It had at one time a refrigeration system on it, but removed by a previous owner. I plan to reinstall a new system, but first I wanted to inquire about adding vacuum panel insulation. Very thin but very high R value. Should be relatively easy to construct and evacuate my own custom panels. Any thoughts? Has anyone tried/done this?

I doubt you could make your own panels. The ones commercially available weren't without their issues and were also very expensive. Best to stick to the tried and true foam - ideally 4" on all sides.
