paint spayer plan

I just installed a 36" full louver door in my house. For the last 30 years my wife has done the trim painting but she wants me to do this one.
My bright idea is to convince her that I need a paint sprayer to do the job. Buying a sprayer for one door is a little over kill but I've always wanted one and always have wanted to try it.
I have 10' dinghy I would like to paint with 3M water base LPU.

I have a small compressor than is rated at 3.4cfm at 40 lbs.

Is there any sprayer setup that can use the compressor I have or an airless model that will do the job for a couple hundred or so.

Or does a decent sprayer kit cost a lot more?
Roll and tip is the obvious other option but I like trying new stuff.

tommays will become famous soon enough

I own a SATA mini jet bunch of money

I have a 3m primer gun and a compressor just big enough to run it and a boat load full of filters to keep the air clean

Because air compressors are almost as good at making water as they are air

I am pretty much resigned that Seafevers topcoat is going to get roll and tipped after all the issues getting the 545 primer sprayed on the boat right i am not to inclined to start the learning curve again

Every paint requires a different setup and weather related solvent amount and type

You would think a gun that sprayed Interlux epoxy prime coat would spray Awlgrip 545 epoxy primer NOPE needle was to small had to buy the 3m primer gun

If a dirty bottom slows you down what do you think it does to your boat

HVLP produces minimal overspray and is easier for novices to use, but it requires volume. I have a 60 gallon twin cylinder compressor and it is barely adequate to paint cars. However, for a relatively small job like a small dinghy or a door or two, try this:

Critter Air-Powered Spray Gun - Lee Valley Tools

My dad is a furniture maker and he swears by his, powered by a small oilless single cylinder compressor. You wouldn't want to paint a car with it, and you wouldn't want to try to spray metal flake or high gloss paints, but for boat work and interior trim, no problem.
