Question about Transom Plug

Well, this is my first SailNet post! Been reading a while, and this probably won't be my last!

After doing some dingy sailing, I bit the bullet and bought a 1979 American Mariner 21. It needed some wood refinishing and general cleaning, but is in otherwise good shape.

We're getting ready to put her in her slip in about a week and realized we have a very stupid, newbie question.

The drain from her cockpit is slightly below the water line, and completely open. The cockpit itself is well above the waterline, so in theory the water will simply sit in the drain and not go flooding into the cockpit, but I keep having horrible images of my new baby sinking the second she hits water.

So could anyone put my mind at ease? Does the drain need to be plugged before she comes off the trailer? Or is she just fine as is?

Thanks for the help all.

If there's a hose between the two, make sure it's in good condition, and double clamped at each end. Otherwise, it should be OK.
