Varnish

Maybe the oldest topic on the water...here is another varnish question.
Has anyone tried using the West Penetrating Epoxy as the first coat on above deck teak trim, followed by the two-part Bristol varnish product?

I have not used the penetrating type but did use 207 hardner with 105. Three coats of epoxy, sand between coats with 10 coats of Bristol over. Good results for 5 years with one coat refresher each year.
