Best TV antennas

Looking for a new TV antenna that is not a satellite type. Any recommendations? Has anyone used a Sea-TV?

Sorry that I can't help more specifically, but your location is as important, if not more important, to getting the right antenna. Where I am specifically, an antenna of any kind is virtually useless.

If you do a search, you can find coverage maps for TV signals. They might be listed by the antenna manufacturers themselves.

Minne,

We have a Shakespeare with gain feature and were able to pick up anywhere from 5-12 stations in HD all along the coast from Sag Harbor to Newport...Cuttyhunk and the Vineyard as well as Narragansett Bay on our trip there last year. You sail in Narraganset Bay right?

We mostly use out Flat screen for blueray movies, but occasionally we tune in a station. Here on the Chessapeake near Baltimore we get over 12-15 channels also

Placement is imprtant of yher antennae

Glomex

Got a Glomex 10" based on research. Won't have it up for another 2 months. Can post then.

Not meaning to hijack, but Chef2Sail what are the considerations of placement?

Yes, but am no longer docked down by Newport. Could be reception in the harbor, I've never used the TV away from the dock, not even for a movie.

Minne,

We have never used it underway nor would we, but in some of the area we have anchored overnight when we take our 3 week trip up in NE and the LI Sound we have gotten great reception at anchor. We hardly ever watch TV, but sometoimes on the long trips we take it is nice to see some of the "local" flavor and commercials. If I remember right we got Boston stations in Newport as well as a few Conn ones when we were in Bristol too

DSMauney. By placement I was too cryptic I think. Ours is on a hoop above our radar which is on a radar pole on the stern. You may get better reception up higher like on the mast, but i didnt put my radar there as I didnt want the sail catching it and also wanted to be able to get to it should there be a problem. The radar pole can be tilted down to work on both.

I also wonder if there would be a greater arc it would swing in when it was rolly at anchorage if it was up higher. That can affect reception.

I just ran the coax to my boom, stripped the wire back, connected it, turned the mast into an antenna and got 30+ stations. I'm also blocked on the N and E sides w/ a bridge and a hill. That's also where most of the signal towers are around here.

there are 2 wires in a coax. how did you hook them up. also if the boom works wouldn't the mast work better?

Just the center wire is connected, shielding isn't, It works well. Connect it to either boom/mast since they're connected to ea. other.

It's just a TV, don't over think it, we used coat hangers/tin foil on TV's back in the day.
