Insulate Icebox Using Foam Spray

Does anyone have any experience with the Dow Froth-Pak Polyurethane Foam kit for trying to insulate around the outside of an existing ice box?
Is this a recommended method? Thanks

Foam Board

I insulated my ice box last summer. It helped a lot. Wish I had done it earlier.

I considered spraying insulation around but I decided to use closed cell insulation instead. Is is cheaper and easier to install. I did use foam insulation from the hardware to adhere the board and fill gaps. When the foam cured the insulation was solidly in place.

Good luck

We did spray 2 or 3 cans of foam (from Home Depot) around the perimeter of our ice box by drilling access holes. I'll let you know this summer if it worked.

I didn't use that particular product, but when we re-insulated our icebox a couple years ago, we did use spray foam in some areas. Where we could get access, we used stiff panel insulation, but along the curve of the hull and in corners we used the foam. On the whole, the insulation job has improved the cold retention in the box but I can't say to what extent the foam itself is responsible. It has proven very durable, which is a plus.

Using this method be aware to use a spray form that does NOT increase in volume. Expanding foams are very powerful and might destroy the furniture if there's not enough room to expand. Also you cant see if it realy has filled all around the icebox.
