Name of line along luff of mainsail

There's a small line that runs along the luff of the mainsail up slightly beyond the second reef point. The other end is loose at the tack and I tie it around the horn on the gooseneck. The mast slugs are attached directly to this line up to the second reef point whereas the higher slugs attaches to the sail itself. What is the name of this line and purpose? I have a similar line on the staysail which is hanked onto the baby stay and is loose footed to the club boom. The staysail also has a reef point and this mystery line just like the mainsail line ends just above the reef and gets tied down below the tack. Thanks for any info

I asked this question myself a while ago, along with what is it for.

It's called a Luff Line (amazing, eh?) and you have a loose luff system. The point is to allow you to lower the sail - without the luff line, when the plastic slides in the mast track stack up vertically they would stop the sail lowering fully.

Mine wasn't tied off to anything, allowing the luff to be too loose. Glad you told me your's ties off to the horn, as I was about to do the same.
