Centreboard winch and cable rehabilitation
The centreboard winching cable on my Catalina 22 had seen better days, so I had planned a replacement before launching this season. I figured I might as well clean up the winch while I was at it.
Winch before
Old wire rope and fork (notice the cable lay and broken strands problems)
New wire rope and fork
Winch after CLR and Tremclad
I had year old white Tremclad in a gallon can leftover from maintaining the trailer, and had been aching to brush it onto something else. I had a local rigger make up the wire rope assembly for $2 less than what Catalina Direct charges, and I didn't have to pay brokerage fees to get it across the border.
Not only will the assembly be safer to use and perform better, it's a heck of lot nicer to look at now too!
