How to remove Masthead on Tanzer 26?

Hi,

Yesterday after working on my friends boat we took a look at the masthead. It needs to be removed so he can have it welded to accept a spinnaker block.

There is one long bolt that goes through the mast and the mast head (not the axel for the pulley), we tried to remove this by turning it and pounding on it with a hammer, this didnt work and it seems like it might be stuck on a compression post or something.

We cant take the entire mast to the welder, we just want to take the piece.

Any ideas on how to get it out? Boat is a 1980 Tanzer 26.

Sounds like it is frozen from corrosion caused by dissimilar metals(SS and aluminum). Soaking with PB Blaster and applying heat should help free this bolt.

There are some fairly active Tanzer forums out there on the net. I am sure others with similar boats can tell you if this is the correct way to remove the masthead fitting.
